This post covers Nova in Warframe. Nova has many ways to deal with her enemies, bombarding them with stars, dropping a mini nuclear bomb on them or changing gravity to suit the state of the fight. This guide will explain how Nova works (including many hidden mechanics), will showcase a build with many alternate options, what weapons to bring and how to use this build to make the most out of her.

Nova Overview

Here's an example of Nova gameplay. Keep her first and second ability active all the time. Use 4th ability to speed up or slow down enemies. Use 3rd ability if you need a reposition or you traverse long rooms.

Nova Pros/Cons

Pros Cons
Amazing DMG with and without abilities Energy dependant
Strong at crowd control and helpful in farming Her only survival tool is also an offensive tool, which you cannot refresh (unless using Augments)
Can debuff Eximus with her 4th ability (one of the few abilities that bypasses Overguard) Can make missions difficult if using 4th ability incorrectly
Wormhole makes her extremely fast if used correctly

How to get Nova?

Nova can be obtained from the Raptors boss fight on Naamah, Europa. After each attempt, one of three Nova components is guaranted to drop, however it doesn't have to be the part that you need.

Nova Prime can be farmed through relic system or purchased from other players. For newer players, that means she needs to be traded from other players, since her relics are currently off-limit. Take note that Nova Prime is one of the more expensive Warframes. If you're planning to buy the frame, use a website called warframe.market, since it offers multiple offers so player can recognize if he's being scammed. DO NOT USE TRADE CHAT IN GAME!

How does Nova work?

Ability Description
Passive Enemies that are slowed down, on death have a 15% chance to drop Health Orbs. Enemies that are sped up, on death have a 15% chance to drop Energy Orbs

Null Star

Creates stars that orbit around Nova. Each star provides Damage Reduction, up to 90%. If an enemy is nearby, one of these stars will launch towards them, losing some Damage Reduction in the process. This ability cannot be recast, unless Nova has a Neutron Star Augment.

Antimatter Drop

Launches a slow-moving particle that explodes with guaranteed Blast status on contact with obstacle or enemy. Ball will follow cursor and can be charged by shooting at it. It can absorb up to 5 shots, no matter the damage it absorbs. Use this ability again to launch it at high speed while still following the cursor. It can deal ridiculous amounts of DMG in correct setups.

Wormhole

Creates a teleport that players and abilities can go through. It has limited teleporation charges.

Molecular Prime

Creates an expanding area of effect that slows or speeds up enemies, depending on whether it was cast by tapping or holding the button. Enemies in the area have 100% DMG Vulnerability and explode on death. Explosions have special effect, check "Mechanics" section.

Nourish (Helminth)

Gives Energy Multipiler, applies Viral weapon bonus DMG and taking DMG creates a wave that inflicts a Viral Status proc.

Mechanics

Nova takes advantage of two hidden in-game mechanics that elevate her performance to new levels.

Mechanic Name Benefitting Description
Weapon-coded abilites Arcane Arachne (Arcane), Arcane Avenger (Arcane), Holster Amp (Aura Mod), Nourish (Helminth), Roar (Helminth) Some abilities in Warframe are coded as a weapon, not as an ability, and because of that they can benefit from weapon buffing. However, they are not coded as a particular weapon (f.e. primary or secondary), and that makes buffing them a lot inconvenient, but not impossible, thanks to universal weapon buffs. Applies to Null Star.
Nova Inherit Kuva Sobek (needs Acid Shells Mod), Felarx, Phenmor, Laetus, Rakta Dark Dagger, Xata's Whisper (Helminth) Enemies under the effect of Molecular Prime explode on death, however explosion effects are taken from a weapon that triggered it. In other words, if a weapon, that triggered the explosion, has an additional effect, this explosion will also have it. If this explosion kills another enemy, he also will explode with that effect, which can cause a chain reaction. Applies to Molecular Prime and Null Stars Augment, Molecular Fission.

Build

Here's the build:

Nova-Stars-Build

This build runs Nourish as a subsume over Antimatter Drop, since we play around Novas Null Stars and Molecular Prime. Wormhole is for faster movement, however they are exchangeable, it's up to personal preference.

In Aura Mod Slot, we use Brief Respite, which requires Forma or Omni Forma. There isn't any other good alternate option, aside from Corrosive Projection, which doesn't provide any good survivability, and if you wouldn't get Shields from Brief Respite, you'd need to change the build around, which can lead to significant DMG loss.

Primed Continuity and Arcane Concentration to reach 200% Duration. Stretch adds a little bit of Range on Null Star area. Equilibrium is for Energy management, especially with Nova Passive. Blind Rage is for Null Star DMG and Nourish Energy Multiplier. Two Novas Augments to make the most out of her stars. Archon Vitality for doubling Neutron Stars Heat status procs. Adaptation and Arcane Aegis for survivability.

This build runs 5 Tauforged Archon Shards: 2 Duration, 2 Energy Max and 1 Casting Speed. 2 Duration Archon Shards are optional, however 2 Energy Max is mandatory, since we don't run Primed Flow, and Casting Speed because we spam abilities.

In terms of Mod capacity, this is a rather expensive build, but you can cut on some of the cost. Archon Vitality can be at Rank 0, because all we care about is the second effect. Exilus Slot is often used as a threshold reach, in this case it's not needed, so you can give up this slot.

How to use it?

Cast Nourish and Null Star at the start of a mission for Damage Reduction, 4th ability effect, slow and inflicting enemies with Viral, Heat statuses. Spam Null Star whenever there are enemies. Use Molecular Prime if you need to slow enemies down, so you can kill them easily, or speed them up, when you want them to reach certain place faster, e.g. farming in Defense mission. Null Star will speed up or slow down enemies, based on which Molecular Prime you last casted. Wormhole is for fast movement and skiping long corridors.

If you play with Antimatter Drop, use shotgun as your primary weapon. This allows you to charge it up with massive damage, so it will deal even more damage.

Weapons/companions

Nova has a skillset to make any AoE or high-DMG single target weapon into a nuke (pun intended). She has her favourites, but there are a few weapons that realy outshine the competition:

Primary Weapons:

Item Description

Felarx

Shotgun with amazing DMG with Incarnon perk that can give x20 DMG Multipier on non-critical shot, which 4th ability can inherit. Better suited for Antimatter Drop.

Kuva Sobek

Shotgun with unique Mod that deals AoE DMG that scales with enemy Max HP on death. Nova 4th ability inherits that effect, so explosion can make chain reaction even easier.

Phenmor

Rifle with Incarnon perk that can give x20 DMG Multipier on non-critical shot, which 4th ability can inherit.

 Secondary Weapons:

item Description

Laetum

Pistol with Incarnon perk that can give x20 DMG Multipier on non-critical shot, which 4th ability can inherit.

Grimoire

Utility weapon that can boost one of Warframe stats. Perfect for Augur Mod Set, that give Shields while using Energy.

Melee Weapons:

Item Description

Praedos

Used mainly for its Incarnon bonus passive, which grants Parkour Velocity

Rakta Dark Dagger

Dagger that restores Shields when hitting enemies afflicted with Radiation status. Molecular Prime can extend this status to instantly restore all Shields.

Companions:

Item Description

Nautilus Prime

Great companion with grouping ability. Paired with Verglas Prime can delete groups of enemies while Nova buffs the DMG.

Wyrm Prime

Companion with ability to negate negative status effects. Best paired with any priming companion weapon. Extremely expensive.

Conclusion

Nova Prime is easily one of the most versatile and timeless Warframes in the game. Whether you want to lock down tough missions, speed up to farm resources at lightning speed, or teleport across the map in the blink of an eye, she delivers on every front. Try her out- she will become the star of your roster!

Happy hunting!
