Magnamalo - Weakness, Rewards and Gear

A detailed guide and analysis of Monster Hunter Rise (MHR) large monster Magnamalo. This covers its weaknesses, how to beat it, combat strategy, rewards, and gear.

Characteristics

Magnamalo looks like a samurai-like armored monster. He will exhume gases, that are the result of monsters he has consumed. He is dominated by purple color which is the result of Hellfire.

Strategy

General rhythm of the fight

As Magnamalo has fast and tricky attacks a suggestion would be to play defensively on the first few runs. This will give you a chance to learn his attack patterns and to know what can be expected from each attack.

His flames intensity will change indicating the aggressiveness of his attacks.

Use traps

Even though Magnamalo looks like an Elder Dragon level monster it is not. Due to this traps work on him.

Use that to your advantage to create openings or additional rewards for capturing him

Dealing with hellfire

This is the main mechanic that makes Magnamalo fight difficult. When he hits you with hellfire you will encounter hellfireblight. It works similar to blastblight by exploding after certain period of time or getting knocked down.

When under hellfireblight effect use wiredash to remove it and leave a hellfire orb. If Magnamalo will be close to the orb on its explosion or attacks it, it will get knocked down (once per fight)

Hellfireblight can also be removed by rolling

Magnamalo hellfire dust

During the fight he will release clouds of purple dusts. These dusts explode after a short period of time. You can block them or evade. However, the best recommendation is to roll into Magnamalo. The dusts don't explode where he is standing so this is a big opening to deal a lot of damage.

Wyvern Riding

During the fight other Large Monsters will enter the area where you fight. Use this chance for Wyvern Riding. In total you should be able to Ride at least two times: Magnamalo + another large monster.

When riding other monsters use Strong and light attacks and after that the Mounted Punisher.

When Riding Magnamalo use Launch to make him run into the wall.

The result will be many knockdowns and chances to deal large amounts of damage.

Attacking monster parts

Magnamalo will have his limbs and head active with hellfire. If you extinguish them by attacking the monster will get knocked down. You can have many opportunities like this during the fight.
