Introduction

I would like to have a series about Civic ability skills "Is it worth it?". The series are about whether you should invest a particular skill and on what circumstances. I would like to start with Loremaster as I think it mostly benefits people doing first play through.

What does it do?

As the description says the skill allows you to examine monster and NPC stats: resistances, abilities, chance to block, action points, etc.

Another benefit is that it allows you to identify items without a vendor if your ability level matches the one required for the item. You will also need magnifying glass which is easy to obtain

So the skill seems fairly simple

When should you use it?

I would recommend these situations:

  • You are doing a first play through and you do not know the monster stats: to what they are weak - specifically resistances

  • You do not want to spend money on identifying at the vendors

  • You do not want to wait until you are back at the city where vendors can identify the items and you want to do this on the field to have best items at the moment

Sum up

I would use this skill on elf as it already has Loremaster 1 from its talent: Ancestral Knowledge. I personally have used this skill on two of the playthroughs. I would say it is worth it in my opinion as it says a lot of time, which you already spend much on managing your equipment. And not having to run to a trader for additional clicking really helps.
