Strategy

Chameloes does not Roar

This Elder Dragon does not have any roar. Compared to most of the other ones that usually knock back you this is the opposite. So it is good to have in mind that you have a few seconds to fully attack at the start of the fight.

Becomes invisible

Throughout the fight, Chameleos will be partially invisible. It will all depend on the angle that you are looking

chameoelos invisible state

As long as you keep moving he will have a harder chance to hit you. However, you should keep an eye on where it is. When Chameleos is invisible most of the time he is not attacking. This is an excellent opportunity to land a few hits.

During the fight it will also spawn thick fog:

Chameleos fog

In itself, it does not do anything negative. However, it will allow Chameleos to better hide, becoming truly invisible. Moreover, the music and sounds will become softer confusing the player

Body Slam

This attack provides the biggest opening to deal a large amount of damage. It starts when chameleos stands on its two back legs:

chameleos body slam

However, keep in mind in a normal state it will do one body slam in enraged - two.

After the body slam it will become invisible and for a few seconds will not move:

chameleos lying on the ground

This is the main opportunity to deal a lot of damage with your main attacks.

Poison Ring

Chameleos will be using a lot of Poison-type attacks one of them is Poison Ring. The idea is that it will spew poison from the air to the ground spreading it in wide area:

poison ring attack chameleos

Chameleos has to be in the center of it, otherwise it is another variation of this attack.

The main issue with this attack is that after a few seconds Chameleos will flap its wings and spread the poison further. The hunter has two options:

  1. Run away further and if needed use superman dive
  2. Use a spiritbug to jump over the poison into the ring.

The second option opens up additional few seconds to deal damage to Chameleos so it is recommended.

But that is not all...

There is another variation of Poison Ring attack that concentrates on the player It will instead suck into the center if there is a hunter.

Breaking Horn

In this fight, I recommend breaking the horn as early as possible. There are two advantages:

  • It is its weak point - you deal more damage
  • It will weaken its cloaking ability

With this in mind, it will be easier for the hunter to manage Chameleos stealth attacks after the horn is broken.

Steals items and materials

Chameleos will use its tongue to steal items from the Hunter. It is an irritating mechanic from an Elder Dragon. Not only that but it can also take your spirit bugs. Usually, you can easily get hit by it if you stand still a lot.

Now to the last tip

Teostra Blessing skill

This skill can be obtained from Teostra and provides good bonuses:

Teostra's Blessing skill effects mosnter hunter rise

You get:

  • Improved blast buildup and fire attack
  • Prevention of poison
  • and negation of theft

These are all made specifically to combat Chameleos.

However, there is one big issue. The fight with this Elder Dragon is unlocked at HR 40. So you cannot use this skill and armor set until you beat Teostra a few times. And by that time Chameleos will probably be an easy monster for you.
